Hello! Welcome to Chef Marie: Baking and Cooking!

If you are reading this it is because you have stumbled upon my blog all about food! The name Chef Marie came from my sister, because I love to cook for my family.
This is my first post, and I thought I would give you a little information about me. Currently, I am a senior journalism major at the University of Northern Colorado. I am in my last semester at UNC before I venture into the workplace! I am studying journalism, with a focus on public relations and advertising media, and I have a Spanish minor. After I graduate from UNC, I hope to get a job at a local public relations firm in Denver, Colorado.

In my spare time I love to cook, bake, listen to music, read and write. This semester, since my class load has lightened up a bit, I have been trying out new recipes, cooking for my twin and me.
I believe that one of the happiest places is the kitchen, in which I can create tasty dishes. I love searching Pinterest to find new recipes. This blog will be dedicated to my cooking and baking experiences! I hope you find my experiences interesting and I encourage you to try out the same recipes.

Food and Family

Hello blogging world! I realized I haven't been keeping up with my blog lately... Here's a post from my weekend. Although I didn't make this food, I spent the day with my family. We always have a fun time catching up and telling stories.  I love visiting my grandparents and uncle. My grandma always makes sure we have plenty of food and tasty desserts.  This time we ate pizza and donuts! 🍕🍩 The donuts were 4th of July themed and tasted delicious. Visiting my family always reminds me of the weeks I spent down with my grandparents during my childhood summers.  Lots of laughs, Dairy Queen trips, picnics, and trips to the Dollar Store.  This weekend reminded me how grateful I am to have such a fun and loving family.

Salted Caramel Latte

I have finally mastered a recipe that tastes like a Starbucks latte. I found this recipe on Torani's website. Here's what you'll need: - 2 tbs. salted caramel Torani syrup - 1 cup milk  - 1/2 cup strongly brewed coffee  Directions:  1) Using a milk steamer or frother, combine the milk and Torani syrup. 2) Brew the coffee. 3) In a glass, pour in the coffee and add the milk mixture. 4) Enjoy!

Zucchini Boats

Another recipe I found this week involved zucchini, meat, and vegetables. Zucchini Boats are easy to make and taste delicious. Here's what you'll need (serves 2): - 2 zucchinis - 1/4 cup salsa - 1 lb. turkey or any meat (I used steak) - a pinch of each: garlic powder, cumin, salt, chili powder, paprika, oregano - 2 cloves of garlic - 1/2 of a bell pepper (cut into small pieces) - 1 cup of a medley of vegetables (I used a frozen bag medley with onions, peppers, etc.) - 1/4 cup tomato sauce - less than 1/4 cup water - 1/4 cup shredded cheese (as topping) Directions: 1. Bring a big pot of water to boil, add in the salt. 2. Cut the zucchinis in half, and use a spoon to scrape out the middle. 3. Place the zucchinis in the boiling water, cook for 1 minute. 4. Chop the removed zucchini and set aside. 5. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 6. Spread salsa in bottom of baking dish. 7.  Brown your meat and add in the spices. 8.
